Spring, 2008
To: Mordecai CAC Residents and Businesses
From: Mordecai Parks Committee
Subject: Mordecai Mini Park fundraising efforts - $1300

During the past year, the Mordecai Parks Committee in conjunction with our CAC has been working with the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation department to plan and renovate the Mordecai Mini Park. This park is located at the corner of Blount and Poplar Streets, adjacent to Hope Elementary School.

Extensive renovations have been undertaken, including the construction of a new toddler play area, new sidewalks, entry area, and fencing, new picnic decks and tables, and new GameTime play equipment. Some old equipment has been refurbished, and the park has been graded and finished with new sand, mulch, and retaining walls. This work is near completion, and after our community volunteer day in April the park will be finished and ready for our neighborhood children to enjoy.

Our community has been very fortunate to have the expertise of Shawsheen Baker, landscape architect, and Cindy Trumbower, volunteer services director. These individuals along with others in the city parks department have been instrumental in obtaining funds and informing the members of the parks committee of various grants that were received.

Because of these funds and grants, the costs of this major park update have largely been covered. The Parks Committee, once faced with raising thousands of dollars, is now responsible for raising just $1300! By raising this money, we are fulfilling our requirement from the Park and Greenway Improvement application we applied for last August.

We are asking for donations from individuals and businesses to meet our goal of $1300. This money will be spent on landscaping and furnishings for the completion of the park.

Thank you for your help with these fundraising efforts. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Sincerely,
